In a car it is heat and cold above all that harm a vape. In summer it gets too warm in the car quickly, even in the shade. That is hard on the battery and the liquid. In winter the cold slows the battery down and makes the liquid thick. So do not leave the device in the car. Take it with you when you get out and put it in a compartment out of the sun while you drive.
What happens in heat and what in cold?
Heat is the bigger problem because it hits the battery. Cold is a nuisance, but usually forgotten after ten minutes in your hand. The table puts the two side by side. It applies to every range at RandM Vape Shop (randmvape.shop), because each one has a lithium battery inside. We do not name temperatures, because we have not measured any.
| Situation | What happens to the device | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Summer, car in the sun | heat is hard on the battery and the liquid | take the device with you, never put it on the dashboard |
| Summer, car in the shade | it still gets too warm quickly | take the device with you |
| Winter, car overnight | battery weaker, liquid thick | warm it in your hand for ten minutes |
| Device was very hot | possible damage to the battery | let it cool, check the housing, hand it in if in doubt |
Why is heat in the car so critical?
Because a closed car heats up strongly and a lithium battery takes heat badly. The dashboard, the centre console and the parcel shelf sit right in the sun. On top of that comes UV light, which is hard on the liquid. Warm liquid is also thinner and gets into the air channel more easily. What to watch with the battery is in the Battery notice.
How do you spot heat damage?
By three signs: the housing is deformed, swollen, or stays hot in the shade. You cannot see every kind of damage from the outside, so hand the device in if in doubt. Do not keep using it and do not charge it. Put it somewhere with nothing flammable around and let it cool there before you take it to a collection point. If it smokes, keep your distance and call the fire brigade. More on that is in the article How warm may a vape get?
What does cold in the car do to a vape?
It makes it sluggish. In the cold the battery gives less power and the liquid flows to the coil more slowly. That is why the first puffs after a night in a cold car often taste harsh. Warm the device in your hand or in an inside pocket for ten minutes. Do not put it on a radiator and not in front of a heating vent.
Where does the device belong while you drive?
In a closed compartment out of the sun, for example the glove box or a bag on the passenger seat. There it does not slide around and stays clean. In a cup holder it stands upright, but often in the sun. Leave the device where it is while you drive and only reach for it once you have stopped.
Can you charge the vape in the car?
Through a USB port in the car you can, and any ordinary USB-C cable fits. Only charge while you are there. Unplug the cable before you get out. A device on the cable in a parked car is doubly unfavourable: unattended and warm. The rules for charging are in the Instructions. You find every range under Disposable vapes and in the overview of the RandM Tornado models.
Frequently asked questions
Can I leave the vape in the car in summer?
No. A car gets too warm quickly, even in the shade. Take the device with you.
The vape sat in a cold car and tastes harsh, is it broken?
Not necessarily. Cold liquid flows more slowly. Warm the device in your hand for ten minutes.
Can a vape leak in a hot car?
Warmth makes the liquid thinner, and then some can come out at the mouthpiece. Wipe it off and store the device somewhere cooler.
What do I do with a swollen device?
Do not use it and do not charge it. Take it to a collection point soon.
