A mesh coil is a coil made from a flat, perforated sheet of metal instead of wound wire. The mesh sits against the wick across a wide area, so it heats more evenly and carries the flavor more cleanly. All eight of our models have a mesh coil, and five of them have two. It cannot be swapped out, it is built in for good.
What makes a mesh coil different from wound wire?
The surface area. A classic coil is a wire wound into a spiral that touches the wick at only a few points. A mesh coil is a perforated sheet that lies flat against it. That heats more e-liquid at once and spreads the temperature more evenly across the surface.
In practice you notice two things. The vapor comes faster, because there is less to preheat, and the flavor stays more consistent over the device's life, because no single spot runs hot.
Which of our devices have a mesh coil?
All of them. The table shows which model works with one coil and which with two, and where the resistance is listed in the spec sheet. Resistance is given in ohms and says how much power the coil draws. The smaller the number, the more vapor at the same battery voltage.
| Model | Coil | Resistance |
|---|---|---|
| Fumot Digital Box 12000 | one mesh coil | 0.8 ohm |
| RandM Tornado 15000 | one mesh coil | not stated in the spec sheet |
| Fumot Tornado 20000 | two mesh coils | not stated in the spec sheet |
| RandM Tornado 25000 | two mesh coils | not stated in the spec sheet |
| Fumot Tornado 35K | two mesh coils | not stated in the spec sheet |
| Fumot Leopard 40K | two mesh coils | not stated in the spec sheet |
| Fumot Eco 2in1 50000 | one mesh coil | 0.9 ohm |
| Fumot Eco 4in1 80000 | mesh coils | 0.6 ohm |
Where there is no number, the manufacturer does not state one. We leave it blank rather than guess.
What does the ohm figure mean in practice?
It describes the coil's electrical resistance. A low resistance lets more current flow, so the coil heats faster and makes more vapor. A higher resistance works more sparingly and goes easier on the e-liquid and the battery. Across our models the whole span sits between 0.6 and 0.9 ohm.
The Eco 4in1 80000 has the lowest figure in the range at 0.6 ohm, the Eco 2in1 50000 the highest at 0.9 ohm. That is not a difference in quality but in design: the device with the longest runtime needs headroom on vapor, while the device with two chambers would rather conserve.
Why do some models have two mesh coils?
Because it lets the load be split. Five of our models work with two coils instead of one. On the Fumot Tornado 20000 you can even switch: one coil for a long runtime, two coils for more vapor. Which mode is running is shown on the display.
On the other four models with two coils there is no switch, and both work together all the time. Which model does what is in the overview of Disposable Vapes.
Can you replace the mesh coil?
No, and that is by design. In a disposable vape the tank, coil and battery are a sealed unit. There is no coil head to unscrew and no replacement coils to buy. Once the e-liquid is used up, the coil has done its job too.
The upside is that you never fit the wrong coil or run one too long. The downside is that a burnt coil ends the device. How to recognize that is in our article on why a vape tastes burnt.
FAQ
Is a mesh coil better than a normal coil?
For prefilled devices yes, which is why practically every manufacturer fits one today. It heats more evenly, delivers vapor faster and carries the flavor more cleanly. On refillable systems, wound wire still has its followers.
Does a mesh coil last longer?
In our devices that is not a separate question, because the coil lasts exactly as long as the e-liquid. Both end together. How long that is for you is worked out from the puff count of your model.
What does 0.6 ohm mean next to 0.9 ohm?
0.6 ohm has the lower resistance, so it lets more current flow and makes more vapor. 0.9 ohm works more sparingly. Both figures are set up for mouth-to-lung vaping, meaning a draw into the cheek rather than straight to the lung.
Can I tell from the coil whether the device is genuine?
No, you cannot see the coil from the outside at all. You check authenticity through the security code on the packaging, and the steps are in the Authenticity Check.
